People With Migraines More Inclined To To Suffer From Depression

People with chronic headache, specifically migraine disorder, are more likely to suffer from depression, feel tired, and have a host of other bad physical symptoms, according to a medical study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The study involved 1040 woman who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in four different countries. Of the patients surveyed, 115 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 776 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the women were tested with migraines.

The clinical trial found woman with chronic headache were four times more inclined than those with incidental headache to report symptoms of major Major Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also five times more prone to report a high degree of symptoms connected to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among man diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical study found the likelihood of major Major Depression increased 32-fold if the woman also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms could provoke or be a manifestation of major Atypical Depression in patients with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Psychotic Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical study author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This relation between migraine and major Atypical Depression suggests a ordinary neurobiology.”

Tietjen says medical trial are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression will be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Indifferent of what’s causing the dependence between migraine and Manic Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Psychotic Depression complicates headache treatment and can arouse poorer outcomes for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The clinical investigation was supported, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American man suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to amending woman care through instruction and clinical research. A neurologist is a health care provider with specialized training in diagnosing, treating and managing sickness of the brain and nervous system such as apoplexy, Alzheimer’s sickness, epilepsy, Parkinson disease, and repeated sclerosis.
